Metallica at Citizens Business Bank Arena on December 12th 2008
By Jose "Diablo"
One more year has passed.  A new year now begins.  I hope all you crazy metal heads had a great holiday season and a drunk ass new year.  A new year brings a new review.  Metallica and Lamb of God at the sold out the brand new Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario California.

Lamb of God hit the stage to get the crowd started.  They did look a little out of place on a giant center stage.  But being the band they are they made the best of it and rocked out.  Randy is just a great front man and fun to watch as he walks around stage growling his head off.  Chris Adler was hidden behind a drum set somewhere on the corner of the stage.  I think he should have been front and center being the great drummer that he is, but he’s a modest guy.  They played mostly older songs like "Now You’ve Got Something To Die For", and "Omerta".  Their set was kinda short being an opening band, but they made the most of it and even managed to squeeze in a new song from their upcoming album entitled "Wrath", which is set to be released in February.

Lamb of God finished up their set and now began the long wait before Metallica hit the stage.   It is amazing watching all the stage hands run around to get the stage set.  There are guys climbing rope ladders and guys setting up lights and testing the drum set and guitars.  It is really controlled chaos.

After about a 30 minute wait, the lights go out, the sold out crowd goes crazy, and the "Ecstasy of Gold" beings to play.  James, Kirk, Lars, and Rob hit the stage and begin to play "That Was Just Your Life".  The light show that accompanied the first song was amazing.  Laser streamed across the stage as the band played.  This is the first time I’ve seen Metallica use lasers.  Metallica played a couple of new songs off their new album "Death Magnetic".

Then they went into "Sad but True".  As they played four giant steel light rigs in the shape of coffins came down from the top of the stage and just floated around inches away from the guys heads.  Metallica continued to pump up the crowd by playing some of their greatest songs like, "Sanitarium", "Master of Puppets" and of course "Enter Sandman".  It wouldn’t be a Metallica show without "One".  Surprisingly they played this song very early in the show.  The beginning pyros consisted of green, blue and red flames shooting about 20 feet into the air.  If you were on the floor you could definitely feel the heat of the flames as they burned your eye brows off.

The night went on, and the hits kept coming.  "Blackened", "Ride the Lightning", and "Whiplash" to name a few.   One of the last songs Metallica played was their version of Queen’s "Stone Cold Crazy".  As the night came to an end James comes on the mic and says "You’ve all seen me.  Now let me see you" and all the house lights went on as they broke into "Seek and Destroy".  As the song kicked off hundreds of black Metallica Death Magnetic beach balls rained from the sky.  There were hundreds of beach balls being tossed around the Citizens Bank Arena; most of the fans were throwing themselves at them trying to take one home.  I even saw a fight break out for one.

Overall the show was amazing.  The guys are playing as hard and heavy as ever before.  The old songs still get the crowds heads banging, and the moshpits going.  The new songs are as heavy as the old.  It’s as though they picked up where And Justice for All left off.  You never know what to expect at a Metallica show.  Lasers, giant coffins, beach balls, who knows what they will think of next.

Also the new Citizens Bank Arena is a great.  It is the perfect size for a heavy metal concert.  It sounds amazing as well.  The one thing that I really liked about it was the free parking.  With other venues like the church owned Forum (which banned Lamb of God from playing there) charging up to 25 dollars for parking, it was a relief to see that not all venues are greedy.  We at Moshking will continue to post upcoming shows at the Citizens Bank Arena and we hope you guys will check it out.  I am not getting paid to say that either, I’m just a fellow metal head who is tired of getting ripped off by paying over 20 dollars for parking.  That is just ridiculous.

Happy New Year to all you crazy metal heads.  We hope you guys will continue to visit Moshking.com, if not to read my shitty ass reviews (haha), to at least check out the upcoming shows.  We’ll keep posting them as long as you keep going to them.  Keep Metal alive!
