Update on Wacken 2008 and the Camp California Idea: Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in the idea I had for Wacken 2008. If you haven’t seen my review of Wacken 2006, please visit http://www.moshking.com/reviews/2006shows/wacken2006/. The festival truly lives up to the hype as the best Metal Fest in the world.

In an earlier Moshking.com newsletter, I had expressed interest in reserving an army size tent with Wacken 2008 organizers by gathering 50 people at the festival for what might have been called Camp California.
Unfortunately, the new requirement for a tent and camp ground reservation is 150 people. I might have been able to gather 50 people together for Camp California, but not 150.

HOWEVER, I am still going. It looks as if there are a ton of people from Southern California who are going as well. Thus, I am sure many of us will still hang out at the WOA 2008, even if we are scattered over the camp areas, the beer garden, the Metal Market, and the show areas. Further, Southern California’s very own Warbringer has just been added to Wacken 2008. This is on top of Iron Maiden, Children of Bodom, Kreator, At The Gate, and tons of other greats.

If you are interested in going to Wacken 2008, but wish to know how much it will cost to get to Wacken 2008, please see the Moshking.com Forum post titled “Update on Wacken 2008 and Camp California Idea”.

Whether you go or not or are still deciding, GET OR RENEW YOUR PASSPORT NOW. You never know when you will need it. Hope to see you there.

08-19-2007 - The New Moshking.com Forum [Message Board]

After receiving tons of requests to add a "news" section to Moshking.com, for the Southern California Metal Scene, I am happy to announce the return of the Moshking.com Forum [Message Board - http://www.moshking.com/forum.html].

Ultimately, I would like the Moshking.com Forum become a BlabberMouth, but just for Southern California Metal scene. Topics will include band news, show/band reviews, musicians/band searches, and questions that relate to the Southern California Metal scene.

The new Forum is hosted by the fine folks at UltimateMetal.com. The great part is that if you already have an UltimateMetal.com Forum username and password, you will be able to use them on the Moshking.com Forum.

If you don't have an account, create one. You can than use the same account for hundreds of other UltimateMetal.com Forums.

RULES

What to post:
- Occasional band news [no more then once a day per band]
- General questions about the Southern California Metal scene
- Constructive show and band reviews.

07-20-2007 - Wacken 2008 - Camp California Anyone?

I would like to thank all who have read my review of Wacken 2006. If you haven't yet, you can see it at:

Many of you reading this message have expressed interest in going to this great Metal event. I highly recommend it for anyone with an interest in Metal.

Iron Maiden recently signed on as one of the headliners for Wacken 2008, sealing my intent to go.

I have told many of you of my plans to attempt to get 50 or more people from California to go. I believe after a group of 50 people commit to ticket purchases, the organizers of Wacken will reserve a camp area and an army size tent for the group.

The very first thing I recommend you do if interested going to Wacken 2008 is to get your passport now. You should have a passport regardless as you never know when you will need one. For around $75, select United States Post Offices will take care of the entire passport filing process for you. A passport is good for 10 years and is needed anytime you travel outside the United States.

As 2008 rolls around, I will start beating the Wacken 2008 drum louder, giving you tips on how to prepare for the trip and the festival. If you have any questions or interest, let me know at moshking@moshking.com. I will put together a new mailing list for this idea shortly.

04-07-2007 - MetalJam 2007 [Call for Volunteers]

METALJAM 2007 is drawing close [April 28th]. Much of the event has been planned and a very fun time is expected. However, to ensure a successful Jam, volunteers are needed for several functions the night of MetalJam including:

- Runner to round up musicians on deck
- Stage manager
- Check in (2 people, only 1 more needed)
- Stage right (musician, preferably)
- Stage left (musician, preferably)
- Tuning room (musician preferably)
- Merchandise & Raffle (2 people)
- Floating Raffle (2 people)

METALJAM 2007 Show Date and Time, Rehearsal Date and Time

The fourth-annual MetalJam, “MetalJam 2007”, will take place on Saturday, April 28 at Martini Blues in Huntington Beach, CA. Metal Jam 2007 features local musicians jamming together to benefit Cure Autism Now, a non-profit organization of parents, clinicians and leading scientists committed to accelerating the pace of biomedical research in autism through raising money for research projects, education and outreach.

The rehearsal for MetalJam 2007 will be held at DiPiazza's in Long Beach , CA on April 7, 2007.

Metal Jam raises money for Cure Autism Now by selling raffle tickets the night of the jam for $5 each as well as taking donations at the door.

Metal Jam was created in 2003 by local musicians Jenny Warren and Jeff Fahnestock, who are both raising autistic children. The goal was to bring the local music community together as well as raise money for a good cause that was very close to home.

The MetalJam event is a free five hour long jam that includes local musicians and fans, plus radio station personalities and a raffle, with donations taken at the door.
